TAMPA BOAT DETAILING PRICE GUIDE

How Much Does Boat Detailing Cost in Tampa?

Boat detailing cost in Tampa starts at $15 per foot for an exterior boat wash and $25 per foot for a boat wash and wax. Prices vary because a basic exterior wash, wash and wax, oxidation removal, machine polishing and ceramic coating are completely different services. Heavier oxidation, restoration, polishing, severe contamination and ceramic coating require additional evaluation because the amount of labor depends on the boat’s condition.

These prices represent different levels of routine exterior boat care. They should not be compared directly with quotes for oxidation removal, gelcoat restoration, multi-stage polishing or ceramic coating.

Why Can Two Boat Detailers Quote Completely Different Prices Per Foot?

Because “per foot” only tells you how the price is calculated. It does not tell you what work is included. A 24-foot boat receiving a maintenance wash is a completely different job from a 24-foot boat with chalky oxidation that requires machine polishing and restoration. When comparing boat-detailing quotes, ask what the price actually includes.

BASIC WASHING

Routine dirt, salt residue and exterior cleaning.

WAX & PROTECTION

Adds exterior protection after appropriate cleaning and preparation.

OXIDATION REMOVAL

Addresses faded or chalky surfaces and can require substantially more labor.

MACHINE POLISHING

Uses polishing equipment and appropriate products to improve eligible exterior surfaces.

SEVERE CONTAMINATION

Heavy waterline buildup, staining or neglected surfaces may require additional work.

CERAMIC COATING

Requires proper preparation before a coating is installed and should not be compared with a basic wash price.

What Does “Per Foot” Mean in Boat Detailing?

Many marine-detailing services use vessel length as one component of pricing. A 20-foot boat at $15 per foot starts at $300. A 20-foot boat at $25 per foot starts at $500.

20 FT BOAT

Exterior Wash: 20 × $15 = $300 • Wash & Wax: 20 × $25 = $500

These examples demonstrate the starting calculation only. Condition, accessibility, contamination and additional requested services can affect the final quote. Do not automatically calculate restoration or ceramic-coating prices from these rates.

Why Boat Condition Matters More Than Length Alone

Two boats of exactly the same length can require completely different amounts of work. A regularly maintained boat may need routine cleaning. Another vessel may have chalky oxidation, heavy waterline staining, salt buildup, mildew or organic contamination, neglected exterior surfaces, faded gelcoat, difficult-to-access areas, or heavy metal and hardware staining. That is why Fred’s may request photos or inspect the vessel before quoting restoration work.

Boat Wash vs. Wash & Wax vs. Oxidation Removal

Exterior Wash — Best for regular maintenance; removes normal exterior dirt, grime and surface contamination. Wash & Wax — Best for maintained boats needing added protection; cleans eligible exterior surfaces and adds wax protection. Oxidation Removal — Best for chalky, faded or neglected finishes; uses appropriate corrective processes to improve eligible oxidized surfaces. Machine Polishing — Best for eligible surfaces requiring additional correction; improves gloss and appearance based on condition. Ceramic Coating — Best for owners seeking longer-term surface protection; adds a protective coating after appropriate preparation.

WASHING CLEANS THE SURFACE. CORRECTION ATTEMPTS TO RESTORE THE FINISH.

Why Is Oxidation Removal More Expensive?

Oxidation is not simply dirt sitting on top of the boat. When a gelcoat or eligible exterior surface becomes faded and chalky, restoring its appearance can require machine correction, multiple polishing steps and significantly more labor than routine washing. That is why a low per-foot wash price should not be interpreted as the price for restoring heavily oxidized gelcoat.

Does a Boat Wash & Wax Remove Oxidation?

Not necessarily. A standard wash and wax is intended for boats whose surfaces are in appropriate condition for that service. Wax can add protection and improve appearance, but heavy oxidation may require corrective work before protection is applied. If your boat looks faded, cloudy or chalky even after washing, send Fred’s photos before booking a routine wash-and-wax service.

How Much Does Boat Ceramic Coating Cost in Tampa?

Ceramic coating should be quoted separately from routine boat washing. Final cost can depend on vessel size, surface condition, preparation, oxidation or correction needed first, areas being coated, accessibility and the coating system used. A ceramic coating does not automatically correct faded or oxidized surfaces. Proper preparation is critical before coating eligible surfaces.

What Should I Send Fred’s for an Accurate Boat Detailing Quote?

For condition-dependent boat detailing, photos can help Fred’s understand what the vessel needs before scheduling. Send the boat year, make and model, approximate length, current location, trailer/dock/lift situation, several exterior photos, close-ups of oxidation or staining, waterline photos when applicable, interior photos when interior detailing is requested, and the service you are interested in.
