7 Possible Reasons Your Car Floor Is Wet
1. Clogged or Damaged Sunroof Drain
Many vehicles with sunroofs use channels and tubes to route rainwater away from the roof opening. If drainage is restricted, disconnected, or otherwise compromised, water may enter the cabin. Clues can include a wet passenger or driver floor, water near an A-pillar, a damp headliner, or moisture after heavy rain. An automotive professional should inspect the system; Fred’s does not diagnose or repair sunroof drains.
2. Door or Weather Seal Leak
Damaged, displaced, or deteriorated weatherstripping can allow rainwater to enter and travel behind trim before reaching carpet. Wet carpet after rain, moisture near a door sill, a damp lower door area, or recurring storm moisture are useful clues. Fred’s can clean and extract affected interior materials, but does not repair weatherstripping or body seals.
3. Windshield or Cowl Water Intrusion
Water entering around windshield or cowl drainage areas can sometimes travel behind dashboard or trim areas before reaching the floor. If front carpet becomes wet after rain even though doors and windows were closed, appropriate professional leak diagnosis is recommended.
4. AC Condensation Drain Problem
Your vehicle’s AC system removes moisture from cabin air, and that condensation normally drains outside the vehicle. If the drainage system is restricted or compromised, moisture may potentially enter the passenger compartment. Water dripping under the vehicle after AC use can be normal; water collecting inside after AC use is a possible problem that requires inspection. 5. Window or Door Was Left Open During Rain

Discovering moisture today does not necessarily mean water entered today. Padding beneath automotive carpet can retain moisture and water can migrate through absorbent material. The visible carpet may feel less wet while deeper material remains damp.

Why Is My Passenger Floor Wet but the Floor Mat Is Dry?
